Saturday 10th January 2026 (26th Verse) (Verse 3 of 5 Singing the Lord’s Praise)
You can listen to the song here
Maale manivanna ! margazhi neeraduvaan
Lord, deep blue pearl colored, we will bathe the holy bath of Margazhi
Melaiyar seyvanagall venduvana kettiyel
That was performed even by our ancients, what do we want ?
Gyanathey ellam nadunga muralvana
At whose sound the whole world trembles
Palanna vannnathu un panchajanniyame
the milk white colored conch of yours called the Panchajanya
Polvana sangankal poyppadudaiyanave
Similar conches and large drums to play and
Salapperum paraiye pallandu isaippare
Ascetics to sing the Pallandu prayer
Kola vilakke kodiye vithaname
Some bright lamps, and flags and banners
Aalin ilaiyaay ! arulelor empavai
The Lord who floats on a leaf, give us all these to perform our Nonbu, my girls
O Lord, who is in the color of deep blue pearl, let us recount the purity that devotees have observed for the Margazhi nonbu, we salute your Conch Panchajanyam that is milk white hued, which can make a sound that can make the whole world tremble and that has huge spaces inside. O beautiful Lord, you were so nonchalantly resting on a peepul leaf in the flooded ocean during pralaya, holding your devotees, and your grace and the lamps and the flags all protected in your fold, May we have all these to perform our prayers, Nonbu. Bestow your grace on us. Andal’s cup of joy is overflowing, she has woken up the Lord, who has now settled down to the worship and Andal is at His feet, singing His praise in verse after verse and is feeling very satisfied that her Nonbu is close to fulfillment, she is ready for some celebration. In the next verse (Koodarai vellum seer Govinda) she describes the celebration and some treats. So you can prepare to make as Prasadam some wonderful “chakkarai pongal” tomorrow ( 27th verse – 11th January 2019). More about the verse tomorrow.
