Poetry

Writing is a form of expression. Most living beings can make sounds, but we do not know for sure if they have a language of their own and speak to each other. Human speech is often spontaneous and at times not well thought out. The human being is probably, the only living species that can write. Writing more often than not is deliberate. When we put pen to paper (or fingers to a keyboard!) our intent is formed, and we begin the processing in our brain to express something. The sentences that we write convey specific thoughts and are generally well understood and clear.

When we have a cascade of emotions, feelings of either joy or despair, what do we do? It becomes difficult to express these clearly in cogent sentences. That is when we write poetry. Poetry liberates us from the clutches of rigid grammar and structure. It frees us to express thoughts in an incomplete form. It allows our mind to float and wander. It helps us to communicate mood and emotion than just meaning.

And the best thing about poetry is that it lets the reader divine their own meaning and interpretation of what you have written. Very often the reader gets a lot more from the poet’s work than what was written or thought about. You cannot and should not read poetry in a hurry; it has to be savoured and while you are doing that your own perspective and thoughts get added to it and enables you to experience it.

This poems in this collection that you see on the right panel were written over many years. Life goes on. I also see and experience many events, emotions; the poems are a part of my effort to pour out these as expressions

I hope reading this gives you a good experience and helps you reflect.

Best Wishes

Thank you for this valuable collection of thiruppavai. It helps me recite the pasurams with correct pronunciation and intonations. Since Wednesday, 7th January, we can only click on the next day’s pasuram option. So we miss the same day pasuram. Please fix this.
    Thank you
